Pretty heady stuff! I propose to invest in recorders every year (each student to keep their own all year), and take some training ourselves...they are fairly inexpensive and we could use a month's fieldtrip $ to purchase them ($3 each?) and bring in someone to teach the teachers/aides to play so that we can pass it on and incorporate into our lessons....recorders are very flutelike and just learning the simple notes and the coordination involved will stimulate the same type of brain involvement I believe. Maybe there is a summer type of beginners crash course in music reading specifically with recorders (I know there is stuff on-line but I learn better face to face)....we could perform at different levels, incorporate the music into our dances, etc...and the students would get the continuity from day to day, month to month and even year to year to build on.
